So I'm leaving for my honeymoon on June 2nd, were headed to St. Thomas in the virgin islands and I'm real excited to see the huge reef aquarium there. Has anyone been to the VI? I'm needing stuff to do because sitting on te beach really isn't my thing.

I went to Maho (St. John) for a week and did a LOT of snorkeling. I usually prefer diving (which we did), but the snorkeling was incredible. Kept me and my wife occupied for at least 3 of the days. We also booked a day cruise out to the Baths (Photos: The Baths, Virgin Gorda) and really, really enjoyed it.

    Thanks mox x)

Yea I wanna snorkel and I would go diving I'm just terrified I'm gonna do it wrong and my head explode hahaha

I've been reading about people who swam with sharks, sounds like it would be fun that may be something I try and hopefully keep my limbs

The baths look amazing, I will definitely go there!!

Its not too hard, just dont surface too quick, 33ft = 1 atmosphere pressure, Rule of thumb is exhale and dont go faster than the bubbles you blow.

Dangerous divings occurs at like 100 ft, but most reefs are within the first 33ft,

Went to St Thomas in Dec, coral world was pretty cool, check out the website, it's right next to a beach too which didn't have much corals but tons of fish. You can kill two birds w one stone. Then again we only had about an hour there, so I didn't explore much so the corals are prolly out there. Went to six islands that trip, there and Barbados was the best.

There is actually a snorkel trail in the USVI National Park on St. John. The water is not much deeper than 6-8 feet if I remember correctly, so your head won't explode. Take the ferry over from St. Thomas, and a quick bus ride. They actually have markers on the bottom along the snorkel trail, and gear rental is just a few bucks.

The trail runs along the edge of the little islands on the center-left of the photo.

Don't bother diving if it worries you. Even if your out of shape your breathhold will be enough to get you to at least 20ft with a few tries. The other nice thing about it is that you won't have to worry about the bends or nitrogen narcosis if your not tanked. You will still want to dive with a partner, though it sounds as if you may have just found one you like, because there is the possibility of Shallow Water Blackout. Basically so long as you come up when your feel uncomfortable holding your breath too much longer you should be just fine. It takes experience to train your brain to ignore CO2 buildup.
