Right now I have 3.7GPA in HS (sophomore). Right now i'm not doing so hot in my honor classes. I have 2, English and History. I'm thinking about dropping them because it's very stressful. Should I drop them?, I'm at a 50% in my English class. I read colleges only care about your GPA and test scores.

This is my 2 cents and by no means that im correct but.... my wife and her younger sisters all have taken honors and the collages in this town dont seem to care, other mor prestiges collages look for the classes such as havard (my 1st cousin applied there and thats where i got that information from) but i dont see anyything worong with dropping them I graduated with a Tech Prep diploma and got into collage just fine and they didnt seem to care. Just my opinion and if it means your going to hurt your GPA i would drop them.

    Freshmen I got 3.5 then 4.0.
Sophmore 3.5, ranking at 18% out of 492.
I'll drop them. Can't have anything less then a 3.5 this year.

I'm not really a good person to respond because I did not do good in high school, but I would call a collage counselor and ask them. How much do you think you can bring your GPA up by doing this?

    Well
If I get a 4.0 this year, it would average out to be 3.7 because I got 3.5 first year.

I would take them. Even a 3.0 is good, just do better next semester. A lot of honors classes lead to Advanced Placement classes meaning you can get college credit your senior year of high school. If you can earn 5 credits your senior year you just saved yourself $1000 and possibly made it so you can graduate college early. Also, the more important factor to getting into college is your ACT/SAT scores. I always felt that colleges looked at those more than your GPA. If you graduate HS with a 3.0, with extra curricular activities and high scores on the ACT/SAT you will be fine.

I graduated with a 3.3GPA, lots of extra curricular activities and a 27 on my ACT and I was accepted to every university I applied to.

Edit: that 3.3 GPA was in honors classes. I had to take health and gym as independent study to get those out of the way to take AP Calculus my senior year.

ACT and SAT test scores matter a whole lot more than GPA. I would stick with it.

arent your honor classes weighted more though? like they will inflate your GPA if you do well...

Back in my HS, we had the normal classes that were on a 4.0 scale, then the honors that were on a 4.1 scale, and finally the AP classes that were on a 4.2-4.3 scale. Thus if you do better in an honors or AP class your overall GPA was higher.

GPA is just a measure of how well you can recite information back onto a test... your SAT scores will actually show comprehension and retention of information. that is why SAT matters more for college.

if you are okay with giving up and quitting the honors program then its all your choice. We arent going to tell you what to do with your life
