Thinking about ordering one of these. It was between this and a Sand Star but everyone talks about how Sand Sifting Stars will die off too easily so I am leaning more towards the Horseshoe.

The tank is a 55 gal about 2 1/2 months old with about 20 lbs of live sand. Do I need to feed them regularly or let them sift their own food and leftover foods?

I feed my corals about once a week and my fish once a day, the coral feeding normally leaves a mess everywhere because the mushrooms take forever to bow up(Soft Krill pellets/raw shrimp for corals-Formula 2 flakes and very few sinking marine pellets for fish because they dont seem to like them lol).

    Thanks

IMPO your tank is way to small. horseshoe crabs need lots of sand, food and room to survive in a well established tank. They will out grow your tank fairly quickly.

Have heard this. Have freinds with larger more established tanks that will take it when its so big then get another! ;)

    Thanks for the concern though!

Supplemental feedings are good. If it's small be careful with high flow near the sand bed as the smaller ones can be easily blown around.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Did you see the recent thread regarding the hitch hiking horse shoes. I can not seem to find it under search but it is fairly recent.

As long as you can provided supplemental feedings, do not mind them burrowing or possibly knocking corals and such, it should be ok for awhile.
