Ok, I wasn't sure where to post this, I hope in this area is fine.

I'm right in the middle of building my 90gal setup. On my DIY sump I'm installing a bulkhead for my return. I just pickup some really nice reinforced hose that they use in pond setups both 3/4" & 1 1/4". It won't kink or collapse, very flexable while cold, but a real pain to put onto fittings!!

I have tried water, spit, even hot water that is even worst due to the fact it makes the hose bite even more.

Any ideas from my fellow reefers on what I can use that first won't be toxic & second be so slipperly that it won't hold... I have enclosed a pic of the hose..

If you submerge the free end of the hose to be attached, in a cup of boiling water for 20 seconds, and it doesn't open up enough to allow attachment, the hose is too small or the bulkhead too big--depending upon how you want to look at it. :-/

Boiling water or an open flame does wonders - I always hit um with a blow torch myself, doesn't take much 5 or 6 passes on either end and she'll slip right on. Wait a few minutes for it to cool before you band it.

Vaseline works like a charm of all the barbed fittings I have ever used to get the hose on. Also if its really tight ? boil some water in pan put the hose in the water and using some needle nose pliers insert them and open them up to stretch the hose .

That line isnt recommended for aquariums. I had used it before until I had a leak cause it is very brittle. It had a pinhole that I couldnt find, so I just went and got the vinyl tube. That stuff has a very hard plastic spiral inside that will break and put a pinhole in your line. Goodluck
