    Yeah Baby!

These are pics of my tank and sump in full swing, as well as a couple pics of my LR.

The only problem I seem to be having is that the Skimmer is surging a bit. Seems like there's a bit of an air buildup in the outlet from the skimmer, and it blows a big bubble into the sump, causing the surge. This occurs every 4-5 seconds it seems.

I'm really not sure what to do about that. If I unsubmerge the end of the outlet, I get alot of bubbles running into the other chambers of the sump. Perhaps if I cut the pipe to about an inch below the surface?

Either way it's up, it's full, and other than the skimmer surges everything is running perfectly! ;D

I'm wondering why you're running a skimmer at all at this point? I don't run one until a tank has been set up for at least 3 months.

Well, the manufacturer suggests that the skimmer be 'broken in' for 24-72 hours, which I did using freshwater.

I was planning on putting my LR in the tank this weekend, and as you can see by the pics, I'm sure it's not completely cured yet. Wouldn't the skimmer be a good thing to have running if I were to put the rock in at it's current state?

In my experience, if you skim a new tank, it's going to take longer for coralline algae to take hold. Right now, there's nothing for the skimmer to really remove and the curing live rock will only serve to cycle your tank so there's no need to pull out whatever the rock may be putting into the water.

    Nice skimmer, I have the 220. :)

Also, where did you get the hose? I am looking for 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" for my drain line.

    Thanks!

    Sounds good to me! :)

So my pump says that at 4' of head that it pumps out about 580gph, and i have 2-620 gph powerheads, is that going to be too much circulation in my tank? All that flow equals about 20 cycles per hour, which doesn't seem like an overly large amount to me.

    *Edit*

I got almost all of my plumbing supplies at Rona (Home Depot). The Braided tubing was from Rona, but the clear flexible tubing for the tank drain was from Lordco.

I ran my skimmer when I was first cycling, cycled very quickly. Also, dosed calcium early and had the green corraline building about 2 months after I cycled. So I disagree with amcarrig, you can run it and still have a normal tank cycle and will mature nicely. Your corraline will probably die off when you are cycling but will come back. That's with any cycling tank. Actually, in my experience, I skimmed probably the most aweful, foul skimmate while cycling! It wont delay your cycle or anything, and will also keep your tank clean.

I'll have to agree with rickzter for i set up my 90gal on july 01 of 05' hooked up my ASM-G3 right away and put in my rock the same day. I had coraline in less than a month. My tank is now 7 month with tons of coraline and is amazing to even those who have had tanks set up for years that have no coraline or little at best.

Stoll keep up the good job with your tank as for the flow you can never have to much flow, but it all depends on what you are gong to stock. folr or reef, then with reef are you going with soft or hard? alot of decissions and tons of questions you should ask and we are all here for you.

    Is that a 90 with a 29gal sump?????
