I just ordered 25 lbs of dry rock (key largo) from marcorock.com and it will be here in 6 days (because of 4 o july) and my tank is going through the green algae stage. My plan is now to save the dry rock for later and let the green algae run its coarse on the old rocks. How long does it "run its coarse"? Would there be an adverse effect on the tank if i did this? is it a good idea? Is there a safe point in time to say that the green algae stage is over?

    Thanks,
    Ryan

    Hi Ryan
nutrients in addition to lighting will dictate how long your algae stays it varies from tank to tank.

I would set your rockwork up in tank up how you want it now, and let it run its course together to be honest

I'd just set it up too. I noticed when I setup my tank that the dry base rock never got the same algae that the live rock did.
