just curious how many hermits would be a good round number in a 34g. at the moment i have 2 zebra hermits and about 16 snails.

None! if it was me, why not snails instead? I would have shrimp or maybe one red legged hermit but that is about as many I would have. not to crazy about them, and if you don't have enough empty shells for them they will kill any snails you have, which are far better than hermits.

i have a coral banded, and the hermits i do have are very small are much smaller then the snails, i have a small area of the tank dedicated to empty shells of different sizes if that helps at all

I would add 5 or so of the blue leg dwarf or the red leg dwarf.... They stay small are predominately herbivorous and will help clean up food scraps as well. Down side with many snails is people keep the inappropriate ones in the tank and then they die quickly...
I have a Pacific Turbo snail now for over 4.5 years

    Happy invert selecting!

+1 I agree. My snail assortment is around 6 months old now. I have a very diverse range of snails in differing amounts to make sure the right snails in the right balance is achieved.

I figured it out by going here and asking this expert (as far as I'm concerned) ReefCleaners.org | Clean Up Crews and Macro Algae - Home and putting in what he suggested.

honestly my snails basicly do squat on my rockwork and sandbed
    thats where the hermets shine

edit: my snails hardly clean the glass either
