so i decided that the first thing i should buy for my 90 gallon upgrade is some rock.

i am planning on using a combination of reefcleaners flordia, and Bulk reef supplies fiji shelf. i know that you should have 1-2lbs of live rock for your system. I have absolutely no idea how much i have in my 55. i am guessing about 40 lbs.

i am assuming that "wet" rock weighs more then "dry" rock. so does anyone know how much 1lbs of dry rock will weigh when wet???? i think i am going to start with a 30 lbs of RC's and 20 lbs of BRS shelf. something tells me that this may be to much.

my plan is to run the new rock in a tupperware container next to my 55 until i get everything together for the move to the 90 gallon.

In my opinion, theirs no such thing as “to much” rock. I’m setting up a 55 gal, and I have 70 lbs of dry rock, and I'm always looking for more.

Alot of people say 1-3 lbs per gallon, depends do you want it to tall, or spread out? I like the 2 islands design. Pile up 2 piles and you got 2 islands. For a 90 maybe 60 or 70 lbs of Live rock is what i'd get, just get atleast 10 lbs for some biological filtration.

true, i mean worst case i can just store the dry rock. anyone know how long its good for????? (j/k:))

i just dont want to end up with a "ton" i cant fit in my tank.

how long do you think it will take for the dry rock to become established with nitrifing bacteria??? i know thats a pretty general question. but if a typical cycle takes 6 weeks. you think 3 weeks would be unreasonable??

How long has the base rock been in the 55? I have heard it takes around 6 months for base to become live.

the rock in my 55 started as live rock supposedly. i got the tank about a year ago. it was set up for at least a year or so before that. the rock in the tank now is definitly "live". i dont have any mechanical filtration besides my skimmer.
