how much sand

    how much sand do i need for a 125 g tank...
    do i need to get a certin type of sand?
    can i use sand from like lowes?
    or do i need the ones from lfs?

    is there black sand like the color black?:confused:

    black Tahitian sand. you can buy it at a LFS.
    100-125 LBS of sand will do

    yes there is black sand. As for how much sand you need depends on how deep you want your sand bed. The normal theory is 1 pound per gallon. There is a calculator on the forum that when you plug in your dimensions will tell you how much sand to buy.

    It is fairly common but can be more difficult to track down locally as opposed to aragonite based sand which nearly every LFS will carry. There are many online vendors that carry it though.

    honestly it doesn't matter that much if you have skimmer and live rock. buy as much or as little as you want.

    Well I was talking to someone and I'm going to go Skimmer less until I start adding corals. So its really up to me how much I put. Good to know.
