My rena external filter consists of 2x20ppi foams,2x30ppi foams, 1xphos sachet, 1xsuper active carbon sachet about 20xceramic rings.

I change out the phos and carbon sachet every 3 months, the rest have never been changed just rinsed, they have been in there for 11 months.

1-should i change my ceramic rings out for live rock rubble if so why is this different?

    2-change 1x20ppm 1x30ppm every what say 6 months?

how does this sound, just to add my t5 bulbs are 6 months old and are on 9 hours a day.
    Cheers...

Kalk isn't really for making adjustments its more for keeping them where there at. I would get the calcuim up with calcium chloride from bulk reef supply or something simalier ,then use the kalk to keep it at that level. the problem with kalk is you would need allot to raise your cal and you can't add it fast.

When I first had my tank I had the XP3 Rena and all it caused was nitrates. I would get rid of it totally. You will be happy that you did. You only need a good skimmer.
