I have a colony of green zoas that I bought about half a year ago. At the time it was about a dozen polyps on a small rock. Now they cover the entire rock! It is a small rock though, about the size of a softball. I want to start colonys of the same green zoas on my larger rocks. I have never "fragged' corals before, so I don't have a frag tank. How many colonys could I start from my one colony? How do I frag zoas?

Simply put another smaller rock up on them and allow them a few weeks to grow over onto that newly placed rock or frag plug then simply cut and move the plug to where you want it located , This is the easy way . But it can be made more difficult if need be

I thought that would work too. I've tried putting the rock next to another, but the zoas refuse to jump rocks.

It takes time . I apply this method to all polyp soft corals like these and can fill a rack in a few months . If you are target feeding them like many do then they will never move they move for only 2 main reasons light location and flow patterns too keep themselves well fed . But they will at some point move when they become totally over crowded in a area also

You are supposed to feed zoas? I never feed my zoas. What are you supposed to feed them?

If you have a nice sized rock of zoos it is easy to use a small flat head screwdriver or similar utensil and get under the stolon(mat) and slowly pry it off the rock and you can then pry as little or as much as you want off. OR if the zoos do NOT have a stolon, try to get under the zoo stalk into the actual rock and start prying that off, sometimes individual polyps come off, sometimes the rock breaks nicely and you have a few polyps attached...
If it is a frag you received, they were most likely glued onto the plug at some point, just get to the glue and chisel that off.

Somepeople cut individual polyps off but in my eyes and experience that is too tedius and less likely to be successful, plus you will shoot zoo juice everywhere which is NOT GOOD!!

Just glue the rock piece or stolon to a plug or small dry rock.

PLEASE WEAR GOOGLES AND GLOVES no matter how stupid you feel, I had a mild palytoxin reaction once, not sweet....

Trust me, why else would they call me Doctor FRAGenstein?!

Ok, this may be a verry dumb question. What if I fragged a few polyps onto a big mexican turbo snail? I thought is would look cool to have zoas on a snail, but would it work? Would it inhibit the snail at all? Zoas don't seem heavy....
