    Hello 3reefers...

After spending the last 48 hours entrapped by "dolly's" wrath... it's finally over. South Texas got hit hard especially South Padre Island and Harlingen. Despite all efforts to try and save the fish... 1 sadly passed away. The electricity was cut off for about 25 hours. My flame angel just couldn't handle it. And while I'm upset about the loss... I'm thrilled to report... my yellow tang, 6 line wrasse, 2 clowns, yellow head goby, blue carpet anemone and cleaner shrimp all SURVIVED the power hit.

This storm and posting online should serve as a reminder to everyone about the need for a power outage plan of attack. Generator? Extra supply of supplements? Battery operated fan for cooling of tank? All things I would have never thought of until now. I'm sharing with you all to help others in the future. Thanks for listening...

Any suggestions on a generator or something along those lines to keep the aquarium going...

    Ryan

    Ryan,

I'm happy to hear about your tank. Excellent Planning!!!

However, I'm more happy that you're typing. I'm very happy that you're apparently safe.

Yeah, you know I was kind of thinking the same as I was reading... Here all he could do was worry about his tank and he just made it through some of the worst weather mother nature can throw at us! Glad everythig is okay!

I'm glad mostly everything turned out ok. down here in south florida we get hit quite often. luckily I live in a pretty good city when it comes to power outages, all our electricity is underground, so if we do lose power it's usually only for a few hours. but i still keep 2 battery powered air pumps and 2 battery powered fans around for added assurance.

gotta love those hurricane parties though!

Bttery powered air pumps and fans are excellent suggestions for everyone to keep in mind!
Even if you aren't in a danger zone per say for a potential hurricane strike...
power outages can occur at any time. 24 hours is the danger zone for most tanks... of course depending on tank size, stock and what not.

Bottom line, my family's alive... you're right... however... the whole time we kept thinking about our poor fish... it's tough to see pets suffer... four legs or fins!

thanks for the replies... any more power outage suggestions?

hurricanes are definitely bad news, but at the same time if you've been through a few and you know how to prepare you're gonna be alright. as long as it's a weak 3 or lower.

i'd much rather a hurricane than a tornado or earthquake or even tsunami for that matter.
