Despite going to the auto shop and reading I am once again seeking the assistance of 3reef members. So far 3reef has come to my aid with computer issues, allergies and got excellent advise and guidence. I am hoping someone may have an idea of what is going on.

    1. The steering fluid hose sprung a leak and steering fluid has been leaking. Easy fix per mechanic replace hose, ok. That is to be done this week.

    2. Now the car is almost stalling and then in the next minute revving when I brake or come to a stop. It only does so after being warm.

    3. It has a brand new battery as of yesterday.

It stalled out at a busy intersection at 9 pm at night leaving me stranded and honestly a little scared.

Any help appreciated. I do not think it's the transmission but I am clueless.

Hyundai Santa Fe SUV 2003, 120,000 miles.

    Thank you in advance.

This might be a long shot off.. but i had a VW Jetta that did the same thing... I wanna say it was the throttle positioning sensor....

Yes I was think sensor and I do not think it's a long shoot at all but I am hopelessly ill informed when it comes to autos.

I take it back this week for the other work.

Man the money, time and stress is killer.

    Thanks for the assist. :)

I agree. I've good luck with my local Autozone helping me out with issues. Since they aren't mechanics, they don't make money on giving bad advice lol. I will ask around and see what I can find out. I really want to say that it has to do with the throttle and not the tranny though. Good Luck.

    Excellent thanks.

I do not have an Autozone out here in the country unfortunately.

My heart sank when someone said transmission but I do not think that is it after reading the Hyundai Car Forums (who knew there was such a thing).

    :)

Not the transmission. Does it only do it at idle while stopped, or also while driving?

Try running a bottle of Sea Foam (can get it at most WalMarts) through the vacuum lines per the instructions on the bottle. MAKE SURE!! You are in a very well ventilated area because it will cause allot of smoke and fumes. This will clean everything in the top end of the motor including the sensors. After this has been run and the smoking stops, it will stop, clean the throttle body with aerosol electrical contact cleaner.

Unfortunately it is extremely difficult to diagnose and or repair vehicles over the phone or internet but this should be a cheap step and may resolve your issue. 3rd generation hobby mechanic for 16yrs :)

Throttle position sensor was my first thought as well. But as said hard to diagnose over then net. That's where I would start if there are no codes coming up.

Edit: Mom had a santa fe around this year that did it and it was the throttle position sensor, I should have mentioned that lol.

Thank you. I know it's difficult but the assist provided thus far at least is giving me a starting point.

The mechanic is going to steam clean the engine when he changes out the steering fluid hose, will this do the same as the SeaFoam product?

    Thanks so much. :)

I never liked the idea of putting water (whether it's vapor or not) into my engines. LOL he is going to do the outside of the motor...SeaFoam does the inside
