hello everyone ! I am a new owner of a Biocube 29 which is into its sixth week .. had a few hiccups cause of greedy shop owners who just want to sell fish, which resulted in a few casualties .. now my tank only has my live rock and corals and will wait on that for 2 weeks more before I start to add another fish :)

Forgot to say I am based in Saudi Arabia (but from Egypt) and here marine tank owning is new and not many shops and resources around, so it is tough here ! Wish me luck !

    Welcome! Got any pictures?? :D
Always take LFS advice with a grain of salt... I politely listen to their advice and then check 3Reef or Live Aquaria on my phone while browsing the store.

Edit: Sorry! Saw you already posted pics in your "losing hope" thread. Don't lose hope though, just be prepared to do research and learn as you go :)

    Again Welcome.

I have a friend living in Egypt, it is indeed difficult to acquire items and they are pricey. He actually built his own tank from scratch. Got his live rock from the Red Sea and ended up with tons of nasty hitch hikers.

Well Living next to the red sea I am guessing thats where they get their stuff ! Let's hope nothing nasty got in there

are the 2 small crabs considered harmless to fish and corals? one is blue color and the other light brown, they are barely 4-6 cm in length

Are they hermits or true crabs? Hermits can be annoying and may kill snails but small one are usually benign.

I agree! Always 100% better to search online.

Though I am lucky to have a LFS that employs marine biologists and expert breeders and keepers ;D.

no they are actual crabs, not inside a shell like the hermit crab. But as I said they are barely 5-6 cm in size... I saw one of them push a fish away once cause it got too close ..

Also the 1st time (during the 6 fish massacre) one of the anthias disappeared, not even a dead body .. the guy said that crabs could have eaten the dead fish .. possible?

IMO, six fish in a 29? IMO, that is way too many, even if they were put in there at the rate of 1 fish a month, which I know they weren't.

    Welcome to 3Reef!
Maybe 3 fish max? What do other 29 cube owners keep?

    Please research a bunch.

Yes a clean up crew can dispose of a fish quickly. If possible I would remove the crabs. You can put them in the back chambers or give them back to fish store guys. Crabs as a general rule can grow very large with large appetites and they will eat fish and some corals.
