    came in from mowing the lawn and found this weird thing growing out of my mushroom rock.

    That's a Holland-grown tulip coral.

    They're like sun corals, i.e. they're not photosynthetic. You can plant them in the bottom of saltwater caves with little or no light. So long as the water flow is sufficient, they'll thrive. They've been in darkness for so many thousands of years, the zooxanthellae have permanently bailed, and have flaked on the heretofore symbiotic relationship that has kept the pair together so long.

    That's quite a score! You are very lucky to have one. Rumor has it they must be spot fed with vinaigrette containing just a little salt, plenty of white pepper, extra-virgin olive oil and whole grain Dijon mustard. Keep us posted on how it does. I hear they're really popular in Amsterdam, too!

    no. its just a dandelion i pulled out of my lawn.boy.you don't know much about corals do you?

    nice speimen i might add , vary rare find.

    they only come from the isle of denile as well ,
    lighting requirements are heavy metal.::)

    i hope you didnt put that in the water. and i hope there is no fertilizer or dog/cat urine on that thing. lol

    might be trouble just introducing unknown chemicals.
    pretty funny though. :p
