This is a friendly reminder to all to BUY A GROUNDING PROBE!!!

I went to move my heater from my DT to my sump. I forgot to unplug the heater. I grabbed it and took it outta the water. As soon as it was out of the water, ZAP! I ran around the room, fell on the floor, and cried for a few minutes. Luckily, i do have a grounding probe, and it did its job! Too bad it didnt help my hand much...

The heater was only 3 months old and it was a stealth heater.
The grounding probe is the best $10 I have spent

Dang - I've read two posts about stealth heaters today with problems. I'm feeling less confident about mine now. I need to get a grounding probe. Good that you had the probe - karma to ya for your pain.

yeah it was a marineland stealth. I bought it after reading lots of good reviews about them... Unfortunately this all happened at 7 pm tonight and the only thing open was walmart! So i couldnt even replace it with something decent.

I replaced my Stealth today because it was zapping me and my temp dropped 4 degrees last night. Actually I had been getting zapped for a while but it was just a very light tingle. I had to have my arm just so on my light fixture while my hand was in the water. I didn't realize it was the heater until I removed it because of the temp drop and I noticed the tingling was gone.

Don't mask it with the grounding probe. Get a new, non-stealth, heater and a probe.
