Anybody have the Icecap 120mm fan? I just ordered one and was wondering if you can replace the temperature probe with a potentiometer dial. Since it's variable speed, would want to be able to control it manually if possible.

most likely the temp probe is a simple thermisistor, so yes you can replace it w/ a pot if you have the proper technical skills to mess with it.

also, 120mm is a common size fan for PC's so they're not hard to find if it starts to go out.

Thanks for the responses. I should be getting the fan next week, I'll let you guys know how this goes. I didn't go with a normal PC fan since this one (as marketed) is more for the saltwater environment with coated parts and suppose to be silent. I'm planning on installing it into my canopy. I'll let you guys know if it performs as marketed.

So I finally got my Icecap 120mm fan today and installed it in my canopy. The fan is actually really quiet for it's size and does move some good amount of air. I decided just to keep the temp probe for now, maybe later I will attempt to use a pot. It does ramp up as temp rises, and it becomes a little louder, but not too bad. It hasn't had to ramp up to that speed unless I force it to increase by holding the probe btwn my fingertips. Hopefully, this will be my last mod to my homemade canopy! Overall the fan is a quiet, good, solid product. Only thing is it's a little pricey for a fan IMO.
