I have a rabbit fish that can make ich appear by choice too. I think in my case its changing its own colors to appear that way not sure if longnoses can do that though.

If it is truly ICH, it will be there day and night for a couple of days before the trophants drop off and become cysts at the benthic area of your tank for roughly 18 hours. This time represents the best time to medicate the tank with copper, methylene blue or malanchite green.
At this time the fish will show no signs of the ich's common characteristic white specks. This is due to the parasite being covered over by the fishes body slime.
After this stage the cysts break open and come back with a vengeance as tomites and become more noticeable and greater in number and often incorporate the whole body as well as the gill regions as well. Once this stage develops, the fish has little time before it parishes to the ich. Signs of the disease other than the white sugar specks are rubbing against the substrate and rock work, rapid breathing, lethargic behavior, slime coat released, off feed and closed fins.
