wow... i just checked my tank and the other fishes are infected too! my kole tang, clown tang and even my trigger has them by their fins! how fast does this parasite work? i have no choice but to do the hyposalinity treatment for this.
will the hyposalinity kill my inverts? i have a lot in there like 2 cleaner shrimp, 3 red fire shrimp and 5 peppermint shrimp. 3 sand sifter star and these CUC from reefcleaners.org. not to mention the crabs i have before the CUC.
80 Dwarf Cerith 60 Nassarius Vibex 20 Florida Cerith 25 Blue Leg Hermit Crab* 10 Assorted Hermits* 20 Nerite Snails (Large) 2 Chaeto 1 5 Red Mangroves 2 Red Gracilaria
    will everything perish?
i never had ich before until i added the ones i purchased from reefcleaners. are inverts and chaeto be carriers of the said parasite?:cry::cry::cry:

Inverts are immune to it, so extremely unlikely they carried it in. Ich is usually always present in your system, it just doesn't usually present itself with healthy fish. Hypo treatment will kill all of your inverts.

yes, the inverts most likely wont live thru the Hypo. you will need to remove as many as you can and put them into a hospital tank. or remove all the fish. your choice.

Ich is NOT always present in a system unless it was introduced at some point in time. that said, you could have had it in there for sometime and stress decreased teh fish's immunity to it and it reared its ugly head. The HYPOsalinity will kill the ICH. It and Copper are really the only 100% cure and I woudl count the copper out unless you get the fish out of the tank.

ICH can show up in cycles. as each stage progresses there are more parasites free floating in teh water looking for fish to host in. most fish succumb to this as the parasite gets in their gills.

so you have a choice. save the fish or save the inverts. I really hate to put it that bluntly, but I dont want to steer you wrong.

Most of those inverts can be removed by hand like most of the crabs and snails. im sure you can catch the shrimp with a trap.

Do all the reading on it you can. you will feel much better about how to treat it and will know your options and what to expect.

tried to gather all my CUC and inverts this morning and they are plenty. noticed that i am stressing up the fishes more the more i progress so i just decided to try ich attack by kordon. went to all 3 lfs and none of them is carrying it but they all suggested a product NO-ICH made by fishvet. anybody heard of this product? so i guess i have no choice but to use this. it says that i have to turn off my protein skimmer while dosing.
anyways, the couple of fishes that have them by their fins last night don't have them anymore and all i did was raise the temp. i guess i am making progress. wish me luck.
THANK YOU EVERYONE who gave advise. :cheesy:

Best of luck buddy. kill the lights as that will help in the stress. yes im sure they were stressed with you digging around in there but you need to act fast so they dont get any worse. there are tons of free floating parasites in your tank now. if you lower the salinity they will die immediately. that is when they are most vulnerable. turning the skimmer off is good with meds because it will skim it out. when you kick it back on, it will go like crazy. I still recommend you do the Hypo to totally erradicate the ich.

best of luck buddy. FWIW, today I dont see any signs of ICH on my Sohal. there arent any white spots and im about 5 days into the treatment. I caught it early. i hope you did too...

Treating ich with meds in the display is hit or miss, however I've done it with "kick-ich". From what I've read it's a temporary fix, but it's been over a year now since I used it with no signs of it returning....I'm running outside now to knock on a big tree in the backyard. Good luck

+1 with pickupman, I have used hyposalinity and it worked like a charm and I did lose most of my inverts so you will need to remove them.
