    Red sea garden eel. (actually they are fish) damit Cosmo beat me.

    require deep sand beds. I highly doubt they can be kept in a standard home aquarium.

    lol, was just perusing LA and saw them, thought they looked neat, then read up about them. Seems cool, but 6" sanded and low flow is not in my future!;) Would be cool to watch these buggers popping in and out though.

    The fish in question appear to be Spotted Garden Eels (Heteroconger hassi), which isn't just from the Red Sea, but a good deal of the Indo-Pacific, Oz, and Micronesia.

    They do require a 7" sandbed, lots of open substrate, and not so much "low flow", but rather an easy alternating back-and-forth flow pattern as opposed to a laminar flow pattern. This flow pattern is important as it's how the eels feed...they sway in the current snapping up tasty morsels that pass by.

    They can be difficult to establish, but once eating, they do fairly well as long as they are kept in a species setup or at the very least, with VERY mellow tankmates. A species setup is honestly the best bet for keeping these fish long term.
