I'm putting together plans for a 90 gallon tank stand and I am wondering what height the stand should be. My biocube stand is at 29 inches and seems very low. Any ideas ?

It depends on the tank size and the room. I personally like tanks to be at eye level.

You should also consider what you will put under the stand as well (skimmer height etc.). I have a 90 and it's on a 36 inch stand which brings it at eye level from my desk. I'm 5'11'' and I need a small step ladder if I need to pull anything from the bottom of the tank.

Depends how tall you are as well. I will be building my 190 Gal stand at 44", so I can view the entire tank without having to bend down at all. I am 6' 4", and my wife is 5' 11". All depends on what you want...as there is no wrong answer.

Thanks for all the input, I am 5'10 and would like it high enough for decent viewing without bending down but I also want to be able to reach the bottom of the tank with out a step ladder. I believe the 90g is 24 inches high so I will factor that in as well.

I would build the stand height to hold the skimmer with a couple of inches to spare. If I needed a step stool then I would get one.

How will the tank normally be viewed? Sitting or standing?
I try to build my stands to suit the room and how I view it. My current 100G is in my dining room and is normally viewed while seated so the stand is 40" tall putting your head about mid tank.

MY stand is 36" and love it. I'm 5'8 and have to bend down a little to view but prefer this stand height so it doesn't dwarf my surrounding furniture.

You don't live in earthquake country, do ya? Tanks with a small footprint are much more unstable on a taller than average stand.

Me too. Especially when I'm sitting on comfy couch.
