Ok after a long wait I am now trying to get my 30 gal saltwater back up and running. amazingly my hermit crab is still alive, but my snowflake disappeared some where. Of course the bristol worms never did die off. Well today I got my protein skimmer, I got a bak pak 2, couldn't find a good price on an aquac and had to get something before the money was gone. curious about how long it takes to see a difference in the nitrite levels and to see gunk produced in the collection cup?? I will give it one more try before I trowel in the towel ;D

Ok, well I am starting over, I am hoping mr crabs will be fine. I also found out what happen to my snowflake, when I moved the tank his dried out body was behind it, sadly he must have jumped out one day when I wasn't home :(.

the tank, since I got my new bak pak 2 i have been all excited about the tank again. I did a huge water change leaving only the water in the sump and emptying out the main tank. i reduced the sump mud to about 1-2in was about 6in. reduced the live rock by half, probably had 50-75lbs in there now maybe 15-20lb. my Coraline is starting to get to be a good size again. I am trying not to introduce a canister filter into the tank(good idea??). I order some mangrove plants and some nitrate sponge to add to a mesh bag and stick into the sump area. hopefully this will help keep the nitrate down. I am also setting a container up on the balcony to store water for water changes etc. my nitrate was extremely high and i bought a new hydrometer since the other didn't seem to work. well tomorrow night i will check the nitrate and hope that I am not seeing red anymore. I also hope mr crabs will still hang on. it is a 30gal tank with about a 10gal sump. I will post a photo later on.

I also need help on finding a good lighting system for the tank.

PS. I know I should have a 55gal tank, but finding the room and getting it past the landlord isn't easy ;D

PSS. Any advice or commits are appreciated..
