Just had a question for everybody that wants to chime in. Problem: my magnesium never seems to drop and even seems to climb sometimes. I have a 125 parameters today mag 1600 calcium 350 alk 7.2. I dosed calcium to 420 and alk to 8.2. I change 10gal/week and occasionally do a 40 gallon water change. Should I assume my mag test is bad because it is always high or just the live stock demands lots of calcium? Live stock (coral) 7 sps frags to small colonies and a derasa clam. Any thoughts on this I would appreciate it, and it has been a while so hello again everyone!

Salinity (aqua vitro), bulk reef supply dosing (their brand) and Red Sea pro test kit.

Well it's not the salt mix, that should mix around 1350-1400 per their instructions. What is your specific gravity? Are you using a the magnesium component in the BRS 2 part?

For a 125 - I would not consider 7 SPS coral frags even remotely a heavy load. Can you have your test doen at a LFS before you buy a new test kit?

So are you overdosing the mag? If you are dosing at all (the mag that is), I would stop until it drops.

I guess my point is you may have been overdosing without knowing it. Usually you will use far more cal & alk vs. mag. Just let it lower on its own and you should be fine.
