and now, for the next thrilling installment of Toby the Wonder Pup....

it appears we can't have a moments rest with this stupid dog. yesterday i came home from class and couldn't find the Toby. i followed the whimpering to behind the couch. he was pawing at his mouth and drooling all over the place and yelping. a quick survey of the living room revealed that he had jumped onto the table and tore apart a box of AA batteries. i counted 19 out of 20.... "ohhhhh no!" i start tearing apart the living room and luckily i found the rogue battery but it was chewed up and leaking. i grab the dog and try to get near his mouth, he'd have none of that. so i got him to drink a little milk before he decided that it hurt too much and then we headed for the vet.

there was none of the battery metal missing so no surgery for Toby, but he's got burns all over the inside of his lips and tongue. the vet says he probably wont be too interested in food for a couple of days but the mouth heals very quickly and he'll be back to "normal" soon.

in short, i am either the worst puppy parent in history or shibas are a TERRIBLE choice for a first house dog. i'm thankful that the dog is fine and also that the vet's visit was pro bono (woot)

You're lucky he didn't really eat any of it! That would have really been bad. My vet has a display case of all the crazy stuff he's cut out of dogs. He's still a puppy. He'll figure out what's food and what's not in a couple years haha Glad he's okay and you didn't have to spend anything.

oh man! i was excited to have kids until i bought this dog! lol

also, since he's ok, i'll be glad he did this if he learns not to chew on what's not his. we've spent a ton of time teaching him what's a "toby toy" and what's not, but it seems like he actively disobeys when we turn our back. that little rascal had to learn the hard way (like father like son....)

They figure it out. I was outside with my dog the other day and had the training collar on him..he was messing around with the neighbors grill spatula and wouldn't come when I called him. I gave him a quick "tap" which happened to be the instant he grabbed the spatula..he ran away and came back growling and barking at the spatula haha he hasn't touched it since.
