    Hi,

My tank is roughly at the end of its cycle as I am experiencing a brown algae bloom! Whilst waiting for everything to clear up I am looking into ways of introducing fish to the tank.

I do not have a quarantine tank so any methods or advice would be appreciated. I've read that a dip is recommended to help prevent diseases, specifically using meth blue. If so, then what process is involved?

I hope to post some pics next week of my tank as I have a few things growing on the live rock that I'm not sure what they are!!

    Thanks

I have never dipped a fish before adding it to my tank. If you don't have a quarantine tank, go ahead and use the "standard" method of acclimation which involves floating the bag in the tank and slowly adding your tank water to the bag over a period of time, usually about an hour.

Thanks for your reply, would the same method apply for invertebrates or should I use the 'drip' method?

Maybe a silly question but the water taken from the main tank to fill up the bag should obviously be replaced, should this just be a usual top up instead of making a salt mix?

    Thanks

Yes, the drip method is better for inverts as they are far more sensitive than fish. They also require a longer acclimation period. Anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on the animal.

Seeing as the amount of water that you take out of your tank while acclimating is minimal at best, I would replace the water that you take out with fresh r.o. water.
