Well I wanted to buy some cured rock from my LFS but I saw in one of there tanks that they had aiptasia. The tanks with cured rock don't have any visible aiptasia but the tank with the aiptasia is on the same filtration system as the tanks with rock. Is there a chance that aiptasia could travel through the filter into the tanks with the rock. Thanks for the help, I really don't want an aiptasia problem when my tank goes up.

When in doubt, don't. When it comes to hitchhikers that can become a real problem, if you are worried about something happening, don't do it. In the long run, it is worth paying a little extra for peace of mind.

If the tank is already up and running, I would just add base rock. Cheaper and less chance of hitch-hikers.

no, I bought all my base rock, I just wanted to seed it with some live. Would aiptasia even survive the cycle if I kept the lights off?

I think aiptasia would survive a nuclear war ;D.

I would not take a chance. I have a single aiptasia that is at the bottom of my rock structure in a 150 tall. And that piece of live rock came from a local reefer that swore he had no aiptasia in his tank....

So should I just let my base rock become live on its own? Would a scraping of coralline or purple up help?
