I almost had it fixed with a bag over the return but that was trashed....Is it true that with any HOB you will have air going in the tank for a while? (while as in days)

The microbubbles entering the tank itself may mellow out after days, but the air is oxygenated very well in the chamber while the skimmer is going for the life of the skimmer. Together with water surface agitation, your gas exchange will procede as it should.

Most cases it subsides in a few days - should be nothing to worry about

The hob that I had always produced bubbles in tank if I wanted it to skim. If I had it not putting them in tank then it would not skim well. Sooo much better having a sump. No more splashing either. Thats really nice.

I hope it's not the case after the first few days. I did read that the first week or so this will occur....it's the breaking in period.

I think it depends on which you use - my aqua c remora never had any micro bubbles but my prizm did for the first few days.

WHat type of equipment/brand are you using? I run all HOB equipment and do not have bubbles.

It is a cheesy Jebo 180. It looks just like a sea-clone. But works even worse. I found a nice one for about 300 bux just gotta find 300 bux now. I had somemedia bags to slow the water flow going into the tank in hopes a lessening the bubbles. It was good for about an hour but to get a good skim like I really need now I have to deal with tons of tiny bubbles. It seems like I am trying to acclimate my remaining fish to the living room carpet.
I can get rid of the air in the tank but then have a real slow return and and no skimming. When I had the baghs on and got a real good skim it was backing up and over onto the floor behind the tank stand. Got a good mess before I found that plus it was skimming back into the tank over the top of the bag.....well any way it is sorta working now. It might be better if I take the tube out of the cup andf shorten it and also the small tube in the bottom of the reaction chamber might do better if shorter. I am disabled and have rockin arthritis so cuttin is out of my range. well any way since I done the water chaNGES THE 50 AND 25 AND THE FISH SEEM seem stable ya think they stand a chance? I will soon pop the caps lock key off too....grrr

I used a seaclone for some time, and found:

    1) that when used as a HOB skimmer, it skimmed poorly and let bubbles in the tank and splashed water where the return dropped back into the tank...

    2) when placed in the sump, it skimmed many times better, made more bubbles...which were all contained in the sump and not brought back by the return pump...

The seaclone was replaced by the Aqua C 180v... a different class of skimmer all together...
