Mission is completely correct, very invasive and now starving out native species. They are usually put into "fuge's" but if its in your sump(right?) i would just keep an eye on it. they are incredibly fast growers, sometimes if you turn a light on them at night they will be almost or completely white, signalling new growth.

I'm guessing that the use of caulerpa species in the fuge is going to be very opinionated. We'll see how this thread goes. I've used it in my fuge before. It's the invasive portion that was the worst for me to deal with. With the thought of it "going sexual" (as it's commonly referred to) in the back of my mind. They root into the substrate where you can't see it. Showing less growth than you actually have. Again , the use of caulerpa IMO is a bad idea. I think it sucks because it's a very neat looking macro. It's also causing big problems in our local beaches/oceans......

Every time ive seen it in my tank ive ripped it out, i know the damages this stuff can do. but there are plenty of people who use it with no consequences and are quite successfull. I prefer the look of C. Racemosa or C. Gracilaria myself but "to each his own".

OK, here's how I did the Mangroves:

This shows how they are actually set up in my sump/fuge.

I removed the clip-on light so you can see the Mangroves better

Here's a pic showing the styrofoam up off the water. I did it this way so the surface would'nt get any oily build-up on it (bubbletrap "skims" the surface).

The styrofoam was from the packaging that came with my eShopps overflow. I just cut off a 1 inch thick strip (about 2 1/2 inches wide) that was 1/8 inch longer than my sump/fuge is wide (10 1/8 inches instead of 10 inches). This allowed me to "wedge" it in between the tank's sides, suspending it about a 1/4 inch above the water.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks!

I also thought it may help "force" the water past the roots, since they will grow to form a wall of roots. Maybe not, but that was part of the reasoning. Plus, it looks nice and all of the substrate still receives light. I'll just keep the roots trimmed enough that they don't grow into the substrate.
