    we shall fight on the beaches,
    we shall fight on the landing grounds,
    we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
    we shall fight in the hills;
    we shall never surrender,
    so it's algae time! the diatoms passed,the green stuff passed and now, hair algae,a wierd electric green that isn't corraline,it's more like a seaweed, and a disgusting grey mossy pile of crap that enveloped an entire rock overnite. tooth brush in one hand,siphon hose and bucket in the other i approach the tank,calmly survey the battlefield and say{in my best al bundy impression} two words.... "let's rock..."

    one step forward two steps back, the grey crap is gone,the electric green seaweed is gone,the hair algae has lessened but now the red slime has showed up,i cut the # of watts on the display and i decided to light my sump/fuge hoping algae will grow heavy in there{there is absolutely zero algae in there,that really frosts my a$$} and lessen a bit more in the display, on a positive note,i woke up this morning and the tank finally has the polished,crystal clear water clarity

    try boosting your flow in your tank, increase water oxygenation, and reduce your nitrates/phosphates (increase the number of water changes and add some phosguard or something similar).

    Ditto

    point a PH at the sand/rocks to blow the crap loose

    point a PH or something at the surface to disturb it alot, that will get alot more oxygen into the water and help as well

    you took the right steps on cutting back the # of watts, if what was suggested doesnt help soon and there is no coral or some really hardy corals in the tank I'd go lights out for a few days and see what that does
