Hi all. Quick question - I recently bought a 250W Jager heater for my 90 gallon tank. I had planned to put it in the return area in my sump. But it says on the box to use in the vertical position, and my sump is not deep enough for that. Does anybody know if you can use this heater in the horizontal?

Yes you can But I'd get a remote controller for it or just send it back and get a Titanium heater and remote controller .In the sump they can break or get cracked and you will never know it ..

    Isn't the jager a non-submersible?

No, it says fully submersible. Which is why it is so perplexing that it says to use in the vertical.

When Jager was bought by the Eheim company, they needed to get new UL listings. The only way to get UL listed was to put a waterline mark on the body. The heater itself is fully submerseable, it just needed the "maximum water level" to pass UL certification.
