It is fairly hardy but like all Anthias requires frequent feedings so adequate filtration on the tank is a must IMO.They may eat ornamental shrimp or crabs and can be aggresive. They are also fairly deep water fish (60-90 meters) so it would probably do better in a cooler tank.

I saw something about them being sold at seafood markets for astronomical amounts. How large do they get? From pictures they looks larger than most anthias

6 inches.I think the reason they are expensive is it is costly to catch deepwater fish and it is somewhat rare.;)

Ah yes although Japanese and Chinese also pay lots for rare seafood. My sister went to shanghai this summer and they were selling live mantis prawns, sea turtles, and all sorts of weird fish at Walmart. We deep sea fish off the oil rigs but we catch sport fish not ornamental lol

We maintained a trio for several years, and they were really great fish. Great eaters, and altho they do have a few conspecific hierarchy squabbles, they don't pick each other off the way many anthias species do. Ours eventually moved to our dwarf lion setup, and even learned to eat from a feeding stick when we fed the scorps.

Pricy, but well worth keeping IMHO.

I'd post a few photos, but p'bucket has apparently kicked the bucket...

Awesome! they are on my list for when(maybe) we upgrade. IDK where I would get them unless I got them online and I could unfortunately probably only afford one of them lol. In the past we have only bought coral online and every time it came in dead. So IDK if I would want to take the gamble in buying one online.

To be honest, we cherry-picked ours from one of the wholesalers, the fish were pale, and about the size of small damsels, but the price was "right". However, we didn't have any kind of guarantee.

If you order your fish from DD, they not only have an "arrive live" guarantee, but a two week guarantee. Their customer service is really great. We've gotten several fish from them.

Here are a few pix of our "blotchies":
