I am trying to decide what I am going to do need some help. right now I have my 3 fish in a holding tank about 20 gal. (yellow tang, coral beauty, and scooter blennly). and have my live rock in large buckets about 40 pounds or so. My questions would be; i have a predrilled 90 gal, i have a sump for a 125g, 2 250 metal hl, skimmer for 150 (corallife), mag 12 pump, few powerheads, heaters, and sand. 1st question: would i need anything else to get the 90 gal running besides water. 2ed how could i make the sump i have now into a fuge?

3rd question: if i was to set up the tank where would i place the powerheads, heaters, and what over alternitves do i have to replace the bio balls other than live rock?
    thanks for all the help

I am a little confused by the post......Are you in the middle of a tank transfer? Or did you buy the fish, put them in the holding tank and are just now setting up your tank?

It looks like you have a good equipment list. Has the rock been curing in the buckets? Are you doing a tank upgrade/transfer?

You can place all of the equipment in the sump. The placement of powerheads depends on your rock structure. It really is just trial and error to eliminate as many dead spots as possible.

I'm wondering the same thing as John actually. Make sure that scooter blenny has plenty of pods in that 20 - that's a rather sensitive little fish, IMO. I'm assuming the 20 has good flow and a heater...

You will need a lot more LR anyway, IMO. But to help it replace your bio balls I would recommend having a total of well over a hundred pounds... maybe even 150lbs. But you can supplement the rest of what you need here with Base Rock (just dry, dead, plain, clean rock). It's much cheaper and shouldn't take too long to become LR.

Also a good CuC will be needed to help with filtration in a way. Lots of snails here.

Make sure water is RO/DI if you can.

"predrilled" I read something different the first time ;D

For the sump into fuge question - do a search here on 3reef using those same words. Should get lots of results.

Helped where I could. Good luck!

A tank upgrade. the fish are in the tank bc im trying to decide if im going to keep doing the fish tanks thing or not. i have had the fish for over a year now in a cuple of tanks (30, 125, 90, then to 39) now back to a 90 maybe if the mood is right. i have a power head and heater and cheto and some live rock with the fish. with the live rock it has been in my tanks for about 5 months (39gal) now in a big plactic container with some power heads

well, if that's the case, you should be good to go. I would do it sooner rather then later because you don't want those fish in that small of a tank for that long.

I have been echoing GM all day it seems......I agree again.

IMO, just do what your budget, space and passions allow.
