Has anyone ever tried to keep a typical grocery store lobster alive in a fish tank? I know they're meant to be eaten, but... They're awesome. :) does anyone know the lifespan, food, etc etc...? I might get a pair for a 55 gallon.

    hmmm. . . .that's a good question.

I'd say one major factor would be temperature. If you wanted them to thrive they might require a SERIOUS chiller to keep the water really cold (like below 60F).
    Interesting idea tho!

Not sure if a 55 will really house them indefinitely tho . . .

I think you need to have a bigger tank to keep them since they can get rather large in the wild. In order to know what their diet your going to have to look up the species and where they came from.

Nvm, chillers aren't worth keeping two lobsters, neither is purchasing a larger tank. Thanks for the help, though. :D
Maybe sometime in the future when I can afford both...

heh cold water species, good luck- it's harder to keep a tank consistantly cold then warm. We have one in our zoo that is over 25 yrs old. It is huge like over 2 feet long.
