I have a 20G FOWLR tank that started in a unusual way. Last December my wife, a teacher, was given a Green Spotted Puffer in a jar from a student as a Christmas present. I have a 30 G Freshwater tank but there was no way I was going to put the puffer in there! So I hauled out a spare 10G tank and quickly set it up with brackish water. Luckily, the puffer is a very hardy fish and he survived the cycling and all. Along the way I bought him a Figure Eight Puffer as a companion and the two get on just fine. Fast forward to the present. I morphed the 10G tank into a 20G tank and started step by step to set it up as a full saltwater FOWLR tank. Currently I have 23 lbs of live rock, 200 GPH hang-on power filter, a small power head and GLO 2x24W lights. I am waiting for the delivery of a Remora skimmer and a Hydor Koralia power head which should complete the set up. I recently added a Yellowtail Damsel and the 3 fish get on together very well. Yes, I know, the Figure Eight Puffer is supposed to be in brackish water but he is doing fine. If anyone has a comment on this, let me know.

Welcome to 3reef.Controversy exists over whether or not any puffers are actually true freshwater fish. I believe the figure eight to be one of the few that falls in that category. They originate in the freshwaters of the Southeast Asia region, and although they tolerate brackish or even full saltwater, they will do best in freshwater.;)
