I'm looking at getting an ato (autotopoff.com) and was wondering about dosing kalk with it. My tank is a 30 gallon with a 20 gallon sump and was worried that the ato would add too much limewater at a time causing a ph spike. Is that correct or would it be fine if I used a weaker soultion?

I do it on my 55. I was getting bored with dumping in 2 part. I mix up 5 gallons a week and run it through an Aqualifter timed with a Home Depot bought timer during the night. It took a couple weeks to get it where I was happy, but once I did I love it.

One thought.... as you populate with coral, your Ca needs will increase. I would think controlling the dosage to hit the right Ca ppm target would be much harder when providing via ATO. Your only really variable to control is the concentration of the solution. Also, varying humidity levels and temperature throughout the year will vary how much evaporation occurs, and thus how much is Ca would be supplied to your tank.

All in all, I think it would be much harder to maintain a steady Ca level in your tank this way.

    Just my thought...
