I have a 120 gallon and with 30 gallon sump running protein skimmer and bio pellets only for about a month now. I have 4 baseball size kenya trees that are spaced evenly from one side of my tank to the other. I have had these for about 2 to three years now and never really had an issue till i moved them to my new 12o gallon tank. Since then it seems as though they will never all be open at the same time. Every day to every few days they will alternate which ones are open. One day 2 will be open then the next few days the opposite two will be open and just a rotation of this but they will never all be closed or all be open at the same time. Will kenya tree go to war with each other or should i be looking elsewhere for the reason?

Kenya trees will not fight with each other, maybe its something else trouble it i.e. to much flow, bad lighting, someone from the CUC or just a Kenya tree being weird;)

what else do you have in your tank?

you dont say when this started but i would look to the bio pellets. bio pellets killed corals and fish in my tank. first corals than later fish. also have you added any other corals?

i added a kenya to my tank and it and the pineapple tree seemed to not like each other, they were close to each other when i remove the kenya because it was constantly dropping pieces off of it, the pineapple tree went back to being full and happy it happened very fast and i was amazed since they weren't touching each other. i run carbon 24/7 and that didnt seem to matter. you would think the carbon would have removed any toxins

this all started about 2 months ago i'd say. I have had my new 120 set up for about 3 months now i think. I have had bio pellets running for a month on the 2nd.

Trying to get a pic uploaded. First time posting a pic.

i run biopellets on my system and unfortunately, the kenya trees thrive. i would be surprised if that was the cause of your problems. How long do they normally remain closed?

what fish do you have in there? any coral nippers? i see a flame angel but i have never seen mine bother the kenya trees. however, my filefish will nip at them and they will close up from that.

They usually switch being closed up every few days. I have a flame angel, cardinal, 2 clowns, and a cleaner shrimp but this has been going on before I had the cleaner shrimp and a small cuc. Nasarea snails and hermit crabs.

my parameters about an hour after my halides came on were:
    Calcium - 440
    Alk - 11
    Ph - about 8.0
    Ammonia - 0
    Nitrates - 0
    Phosphates - .05
Dont have a mag test yet

I got home last night and one of the kenya trees (the parent plant) i think is on its way out. It is very deflated and limp kinda starting to shed. I have had one die before and it looks exactly like the one did when it died.
