    Kevin's 80G ==> reef in progress

After repairing a brand new aquarium twice, it's finally up and running.;D i really hope it stays that way.

i have a couple pieces of live rock, some base rock and some bleached coral. no livestock yet.

Tell me what you think of the aquascape. Suggestions?

It looks very good, are you confident that those stacked rocks are secure though

the actions of hermits and even large snails at a later date could cause a slide, if they are just stacked on pivot points

basically, if you can wobble them, then they can fall

Great start! Why did you have to repair it?

Congrats. It's looking good. From the pics it appears that your rock is sitting on the sand. If it is, and doesn't have some kind of frame under it, you cound be in for a rock slide or a collapse that can crush livestock if you get anything that digs through the sand such as a goby or certain shrimp, snails, or sea stars.

thanks i'm glad u like it.

i didn't start over during the process but i did the entire thing over when the glass cracked, because of a pointy rock i guess. When i did it the second time i knew exactly what i wanted and what i wanted to do differently.
the second crack happened when i got back the tank and was moving it to the stand, it slipped from my brother's hand and hit the door frame.
i did go very slowly though, kept checking to see if i liked how it was coming along. shifting a rock a couple inches then shifting it back:-/

the rocks are on egg-crate and stacked very securely. i tested them at every step. they are all wedged and well supported. they don't shake when i push down on them. i was very careful with this. it took about 5 hours, it doesn't look like it would but that's because of how much double checking i was doing.

so it's been a couple months since i set up this tank. i have changed the aqua scape a bit, leaving the top open for swimming space. what do u think?
    right now i have
    2 chromis
    1 royal gramma
    1 yellow tang

the tank only gets that much sun for about half an hour, i think it looks cool though. i only have 4 hermits as the cuc so i think that's y there is a lot of diatoms, b/c it doesn't grow on the glass anymore. i'm going to get some snails tomorrow. i was waiting for the LFS to stock them.

I have my basement windows covered to block the sun from hitting my tank...
