I never add a refugium until I add the skimmer and on average thats about 6 months or so once I get the tank up and running . There little for a skimmer to do and or for the plants to feed on under that amount of time. You can feed the pods phytoplankton's But you run the risk of turning the entire system into a plankton reactor .. You can toss some flaked food into the fuge to help feed the plants .

Thanks Amcarrig and Tangster, I'll skip the plants until it's time. Didn't think about having to feed the pods though, wonder if I should put some phytoplankton in there ever so sparingly? Not a big deal becasue I put the pods in 3 or so weeks ago and they've seemed to multiply pretty well.

I think I'm going to add an air stone to the sump this week to try and get the ORP up. It's staying around 310. Doesn't really fluctuate but it's low...

Man It amazes me how these days and we have all these data loving reefers and they will spare no expense to keep th corals but none hardly use air stones anymore..

I have one in each overflow and 2 in the sump and a straight air pipe into my fuge . I was at R/C the other week reading about the algae x stuff we are using for the bryopsis we have been fighting since last fall. Its working like a charm , But over there its like information central people fear it like it crude oil asking all these dump a$$ questions about is it reef safe LOL .

Well I guessed at my water as 200 gals a 180 with 300 to 400 lbs of rock and a 40 gal sump with about 15 gals or so in it max. I used the algae X at 40 ml.. did not feel like all the Math to get a better estimate I don't worry that much But what was funny many over there did all the micro managing and figuring water to the imp degree :) and then lowered the dosing amount to be safer LOL But some lost fish first question was by the malefactor was you have any air stones ? if not add them .. Its never did a seconds worth of harm here at a higher dosing rate by 10 Ml over the label directions . Algae is dieing now though :) If more used air stones they would have far less ich issues .. Most should leave or add the micro bubbles in the water :)

Well I'll definitely be getting an air stone. ;D Hell maybe two..

I know scott pumps in air from outside. Might do that as well.

I was reading your other thread on the algae X stuff I really hope that works. Can't wait to see your 180 back into the swing of things.

I started the real treatments last week and with last night just being the 4th one it pretty much wiped out the refugium and all the bryospsis it all pale yellow and looking really funny and now starting to float off lost the rich dark green coloration now more of a Baby ^&%@ yellow look to it.. I have some of my before covered up acros making a come back now ,, Hell I have forgotten abut a few of them :) This stuff is just the worst algea I ever had the displeasure to do battle with.. I am not counting my chickens just yet .. Thats the common sense in me making me say that! I have yet to hear the Fat lady warming up even.. Oh sorry the obese lady I'm so P/C ;D
