Laptops...give males problems?

Ok so I have my new laptop paid for by with my own hard earned cash. Well, my mom seems to be a firm believer that laptops, when used in the lap of a male over an extended period of time, can make a guy "sterile". You know what I mean, this is a family forum so I'm not going any deeper than that.

She even found me a pad to use between myself and my laptop if I ever use it in my lap. *sigh*

Reading on the internetz I found that the main argument for this "effect" is the heat from the laptop, not any special rays or waves or sharks with lasers on their heads. (anyone remember the game shark? I think it was for sega...or N64...that thing was awesome) So I'm just curious, we have some computer guys on this forum, what do you think about this issue?

 

its debatable.. get one of those fan cooled lap pads.. to avoid any "injuries"..

 

just make sure you have a hard surface under your laptop, like the thing your mum got you. The laptop has a fan which vents to the bottom.
Any laptop newer than 10 years old will shutdown if it gets too hot neways. They can get pretty hot before reaching that stage though, nothing to worry about.

i don't have a laptop, and thats probably why i haven't heard that before.
when i have used other peoples laptops i just tip them when it starts to get hot so the fans can actually cool the laptop down.

Why couldn't we have had laptops when I was growing up....(just kidding, wouldn't trade my kids for a million dollars,maybe 20 frags a bta and some mag supplement, but not for a million dollars).
My wife gets onto me all the time about putting the laptop in my lap,not for my health but for the laptop itself,she says i'm gonna burn it up.
I think it's just a gimmic to sell pads and trays for them myself.

That's what I think...but mom's will be mom's...I guess she wants to be called grandma. Whatever floats her boat. Maybe I should email mythbusters...

 

Myth. Spread to keep people from keeping them on laps for extended periods. This will greatly shorten the life of your laptop due to overheating. However the temp will effect a boy/girl outcome.

Myth, although if there's any truth in that, I'm sure it could come true with my Macbook which gets extremely hot. Since I don't want kids, ever, I guess it's just an extra form of protection for me
