Yea that is exactly what i am thinking. So im wondering what measures can be taken to prevent the high nitrate levels without removing any fish. Its hard to say goodbye, let alone catch the buggers in the LR.

Inches of fish is not as important as what kind of fish. Some fishes have a very heavy bioload. Some fish do not. It depends on what you got and how you maintain it.

IME managing the tank strictly by the numbers doesn't lead to success

Well, Im just trying to take preventative measures for what can happen, hence why i started this thread. Everything is fine, and i promised my fishies a clean, healthy home.

If yo have enough LR you should have around 75LBS and do weekly water changes you should be ok for a while. If a fish looks like he is getting too big you will know when to remove him.

What fish do you have? That is more important than the number of inches. How often and how much do you feed? How much live rock?

Water changes of 15%(weekly, religiously, including filters), high quality salt mix(Oceanic for me), minimal feedings of a quality flake food(from my experience) and a really good clean up crew.

I had a 55 that was over stocked and ended up killing more than I should, because I neglected the above things. I did 10% about once every two weeks, used IO salts, way overfed and always seemed to kill my clean up crews.
