Don't think you'll have to worry about it carpet surfing. Nor will you have to worry about issues with the Tang. This blenny gets up to 5" and will hold it's own. As for algae just about any microalgae will do, most of which you can't even see. You may want to supplement with some algae wafers every now and then. This is a very peaceful, energetic fish with lots of personality :)

Lawnmower blennies are fun,I got one and it seems somewhat territorial but loves to eat the algae that grows, when my coral shrimp gets to close he usually whip tails it.

So he wouldn't play well with a Hi Fin Goby and a Royal Gamma in a 30g system? I really want one, but not at the risk of losing a fish or coral

No problems with gamma's - 30 gal will be a tight fit though - they can get up to 5 inches (mine is) Don't think the goby would be an issue either.
Great fish how old is your tank - they can be finicky eaters - mine will only eat algae. Won't touch nori or pellets. A mature tank or an algae abundant tank is a must.
