That sucks :( I guess there is one good thing to having a tank with a small algae problem, mine seems to have a regular buffet.

+ Unless your tank is filthy they WILL starve in captivity.. I had a starry in a 75 where I feed an algae based frozen 2x a day, used nori, AND INTENTIONALLY left the blinds open to hasten diatom growth and after about half a year he starved to death too. They are suited for large dirty tanks!

    Sorry for your loss!

We had one in our 120 that did well for about 8 months. His name was Bubba. He would watch us while we sat in the room. One day I could not find Bubba and I ask my hubby and he said Bubba died. He found him a couple of days before that but did not have the heart to tell me. Poor Bubba. Now in fish heaven! We have tried to raise a couple of more since then with no luck. I will not buy another one because they seem to die in my tanks.

so sorry to hear about your blenny. If he was the kind of fish I'm thinking, I have one. Did he scoot and jump mostly about the bottom of the tank? Isn't amazing how attached we get to our pet's, I didn't think it would be the same with fish...I was wrong.

:( All the talk about blenny's starving is making me worry about my little guy. He's all fat and happy due to my algae issue (due to tank being near a window, not much I can do bout that) - but when I move that'll be a different story.

Has anyone had good luck with a lawnmower blenny in a refugium? Will they eat macro algae of any sort, or I wonder if we could find a way to cultivate the kinds they prefer to eat? I really don't want to see any fish starve, such a sad way to go.

Yup....that's a thang with LM blennys. Mine is on the skinny side. If he goes, I am not getting another one. Great fish.......but not worth the pain of watching them starve. Sorry for your loss Julie.....K+

Sorry for your loss. I lost mine a while back, but mine completely vanished! Like gone, no traces of bones either. Then again my tank will do that. I've lost other things without a trace. Kinda spooky when I think about it.

ppl tell me not to get on i like them i think they are so cool but like i dont want one because to me they are not meant to live in tanks because they are grazers and they need constant algea growth to actually thrive and if you dont have a big tank with alot of algea that he can eat on for awhile becase ha they are sea cows they walk around grazing and let the other spots grow back and they do it all over so i think its kinda careles to buy them because of that reason ive seen in the hobby ppl dont like to have algea in their tank so if i was to get on i would just want to rent it to get rid of hair algea and all that type of stuff and sell him to some one who has a bigger tank or has that algea problem.................... but i am sorry to hear about you guys blennys

your tank sounds like it has been up for years if things are vanishing after death and you dont have any spikes in your readings

I tried 2... He would eat prepared food.. But not as much as the other fish. I'm not sure if they starved. They never really got skinny. Didn't last more than a month for one and 2 weeks for the other.
