Plasma's are good, they use more power and run hotter. Beasue they run hot, they can have a shorter life span ( but if you keep air moving it should be OK). lcd run cooler and will last longer (normally).

there is a lot of good info already here.. but there is a lot that hasn't been asked.. are you looking for a TV that you can get a nice HD pic with or do you not care?? how far from your chair/ couch is the tv going to be? What looks best to you ? and so on .. I am a dealer for most of the sets described already and i can tell you out of the LCD and the Plasma I chose a 52" plasma for my living room and a 47 Plasma for my bedroom. The bedroom tv is left on all night sometimes with no problems of burn in. Lcd's are meant for up close viewing and the plasmas are better at further distances, that distance depends on the size of the set. if your looking at a 42-52 its between 15 and 25 feet away it looks optimal for the plasma. Plasma also has a longer lamp life by an average of 10,000 hours some are 25,000. I could go on and on but ultimately it is up to you on what looks best to you and what is in your price range.. the Plasmas are at the top of their game and the Lcd's have more left on the table but like others have said if you do go LCD be sure to get the 120MHz refresh rate set as it will not pixilate as bad on very fast moving scenes.. all in all I love my plasmas and my LCD's are just OK and I have 5 of them.

I have a 42" plasma and I love it. I've had mine 2 years and have had no issues with burn in. I can't get over the washed out look of the color black in LCD compared to Plasma. All other colors look great, but blacks tend to have a greyish hue if you don't look dead at the screen.

I don't really watch sports, and I don't sit in a dark room. Most of my watching is normal cable TV stuff... so I went with a 42" LCD that sits about 10 feet from the couch. It uses half the power of a plasma. I love it. Uverse HD package is awesome.

I dont know what people talk about when they say black is not black. My lcd comes in crisp and clear and is viewable from all sides. Maybe I just dont pay enough attention to every detail. I thought my lcd ran hot, I am surprised to hear that plasma run hotter. I bet that peels the paint off the wall. LOL.

I got my plasma and my LCD at circuit city but both were black friday sales, the prices they had were better than the online retailers after shipping at that point

I would go with LCD all the way. No glare is awesome. You should also know that burn in is not a problem with almost all new plasmas on the market today.

Stopped by again the other day and they are still only asking about $50 less then the best deal I can find, and that is for the displays mostly. So if I'm buying a used TV I think I'll wait for a better deal :p! You should see how much they have sold in a couple weeks, the store looks bare and there deals aren't even that great. And to top it all off as I was browsing around all the employees started running around and were yelling that everyone had to get out, there had been a threat to the store!!
