I'm subscribing here too. I'm building my own sump too, and adjustable baflers seem to be the best for me right now since nothing is set on stone so far.

I think I read over here too that somebody tried this without EPDM material without success. I hope It works out, since I may be doing the same. Keep us posted!

I wonder if you can do the EPDM with glass baflers or does it HAVE TO BE acrylic?

I was reading further down the link and found that he used acrylic baffles because acrylic is easier to come by than cutting glass cut. However, it also said it would work with both materials.

by cutting the baffles 1/8" shorter than the actual width needed then fill the gap with silicone and allow it to cure for 24 hours. then add a final bead all the way around both sides to complete the seal. allow to cure another 24 hours.
expansion and contraction should not be an issue once its full of water and the heater is running keeping you within a 2degree temp fluctuation.

Just to update, things are going a little slower than anticipated as getting all of the silicone off both the baffles and the tank is a tedious affair. Hopefully everything is installed and pumping during the weekend and I'll update then.

But theoretically, you could use either one, correct?
I have a glass shop nearby that sells cuts for dirt cheap, about 3 to 4 bucks a piece. I'm thinking it'll be cheaper than the acrylic, but then again, I'm not in the acrylic business, so no real way to know but asking at the hardware store. I was thinking black acrylic cuts would work better for possible algae issues.

Anyway... I'll keep watch over this one.

@Mag: Depending on what you're trying to accomplish, you'll likely want to go with the glass regardless. The acrylic will almost always be more expensive.

Then glass it will be! Cheaper too and that is a major plus!

Sorry, not trying to hijack the thread. I'm still on the lookout to see how the EPDM strips work in this setup. I hope it works!

    Good luck!! Keep us posted!

Well the EPDM strips definitely work. I needed to hammer in the pieces as they weren't originally cut specifically for this application but am generally happy with the results. Only time will tell if it holds up, however so far so good!

I'll see how it does after about a weeks worth of pressure on the baffles.

That's great!!! Was the problem the 1/8" reduction you needed and didn't have? How did you put it together, just like in the guide or was there any untold "tricks" to it?
