Recently got back into the hobby and was amazed to see the things that have come out.

I am pretty sure that I want Radions but just wanted to see if there is another route to go. Maybe less cash with the same storm effect. I'm not big on the reds and greens to be honest.

Will the Radions also do the sunrise and sunset functions? Also how much is involved in setting them up on the computer?

Well if you want all the controlability along with the thunderstorms i would recommend the AI SOL. Its cheaper, and doest have any green or red leds.

    AI - life illuminated

FYI, i never even use the storm function. But boy my friends sure do love it.

Do you have to buy a separate controller with those?

For the SOL you do, they have their next generation light coming out that is controlled through the computer. ( AI VEGA)

So the controller plus the actual light is $480....plus tax, shipping, etc...., one controller will control at least 20 of the light modules. Maybe more.

The AI controller will control 16 lights. The Radion is more expensive, but blows the AI away in every aspect. I went from AI's (2) to one Radion and my growth and color has enhanced tenfold. The Vega looks nice, and is priced well, but I'm afraid the 2:1 will still apply, meaning $1000(AI) to $750(Radion) for the same output. If you are not running an SPS system, some other rebranded Chinese fixtures will work great for you.

So the Chinese LEDs are decent for LPS and softies? Are there any that are controllable? Or should I just go with the Radions and be done with it?

Well I decided to go with the Radions and I am so impressed with them. The programming is a little out of my league but I have come up with a color that is pretty close to 20k MH.

I just added another 75lbs of live rock so when it clears up I will have a few new pics to throw up.
