Im actually experiencing this right now. I have a female leopard wrasse that I intorduced to my tank about a month ago.

It swam for about 15 minutes until I saw a huge sand storm.

Still its comes out of the sand bed for maybe 15 minutes then goes back in.

It seems like its every other day now. I think its scared of my purple tang who tries to tail slap it.

Im hoping soon it stays out cause it hasnt eaten yet since Ive introduced it into my tank.

    Telgar,

Thanks for the welcome back.... NASA job has been absolute horrible the last few months. I've been totally consumed in it.

    tatted4ever,

My Leopard wrasse showed up for a moment last night.... and then haven't seen it since. We shall see....

so you introduced it to your tank a month ago? i am sure it has to be eating something if thats the case i dont think a fish can survive a month without food can it?

very interesting though i never heard of any fish doing this before, pretty crazy!!

I would take it back before it does starve, you have territorial issues this will not just dissappear if its gone on for month. Also its not a slap it's a slash, tangs have a structure called a scalpel on their tail. When threatened or fighting they stick the structure out to cut other fish.
I think you would be hiding too if someone was trying to stab you with a knife.
Yes If initially very healthy, It can survive for a bit longer then a month. It probably hopes the tang is gone when it comes out and tries maybe to eat a few pods. That said I think it's probably close to reaching it's limit

Well..... Im close to the point of taking it back....

Shes very pretty and seems very active when she comes out.

The Purple Tang isnt very aggressive towards it. When they get close he backs up with its tail. Its not like the purple tang is getting it pinned in the corner slapping it to death.

It came out of the sand bed thursday night and was out for a couple of hours. then then yesterday must of went back in the sand bed. Cant see it today.
