I know your not suppose to keep lids on the aquarium due to oxygen exchange, but i have a serpent star that likes to climb on the heaters and stuff on the back glass and try to get out. so i keep the lid on and leave the front part of the glass open. Is that ok or any other suggestions would help.

Alot of people use eggcrate on the top of their aquariums to stop the jumpers and climbers. You could try that...You can get it at home Home Depot or Lowe's. They're in the lighting section...

I have a full class top on both my 20 and 33 long frag top. the 33 drains into a 30 gallon sump/fuge that is uncovered so I get plenty of gas exchange there, and the 20 has a huge filter on the back that is uncovered and the back of the tank is uncovered also so gas exchange isnt a problem there. they both are doing great.
