I use a 13w CFL for home use with a clamp on reflector for m HD. It works great for growing chaeto and other macro algae.

Well, first I'm surprised reefcleaners didn't know anything of its lighting needs, I'm sure they do, but anyways, it doesn't require a lot of light, however, to get it to grow well, which is what you really want, moderate light is needed. For example, I had a softball sized ball and had it under a 26w CFL which was about 16-18" above the chaeto, I had it like this for about a month. I then lowered the light to just above the water b/c it wasn't growing very well. Now it takes up the entire compartment, which is about 14"X12"X10",and it did that in about a week, and I now have to remove large clumps of it to keep it growing nicely. So to your situation, to me, it doesn't look like you will have enough light spilling over from your tank. Why don't you try to find a small clip on light that you can stick on it?
