Hi all, new to the board and I wanted to get some opinions on lighting for my 100G Fish only tank. The tank has been set up for years, but I just recently added live rock. The tank has two hoods with a single 24" 6500K bulb in each. I wanted to upgrade the lighing just enough for some coraline algae growth and to give the tank some better color. No future plans for reef in this tank.

I'm assuming a single bulb would not support Coraline algae growth. Would a second bulb in each hood be enough lighting ?

Thanks for the reply, I had no idea that coraline didnt need light. Would you then recommend a different bulb in the existing fixture (50/50 or 10k maybe), or would i really need a second set of bulbs for more color/brightness?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
There are many types of coralline, and some do much better with the correct lighting.

Personally I would get a T5 with at least 4 bulbs.

To maximize the coralline growth make sure Calcium is around 350-450, Alk 8-11 and Magnesium 1350-1450 consistently. Maintaining those parameters will greatly assist in coralline growth.

    Welcome to 3reef.

I agree with corailline but I don't see the point of a 4 bulb fixture for a fowlr tank, a 2 bulb for a fowlr would be more than enough
