So I am about to start an awesome FW panted tank build and I was wondering if anybody had lighting ideas.
I think LED lights would look really cool....but would they work on a planted tank?
How many of these would I need?
    BoostLED
Also do those lights have an actual fixture ^ or are they just the bulbs they are selling?
Any suggestions on lighting would be great!
My tank is 55 gallons and 48 inches long.
    Thanks

That is just the bulb. I would email BoostLED and ask them to suggest what you should get. I would go with all white except one blue if I were to go that route.

A 2X54W T5HO would allow you to grow just about any aquatic plant.

Ok thank you very much for the help ;)
The problem is that I feel like T5s would overheat the tank. A chiller is not an option. Would the tank get overheated?
Is there a reason you only think I should have one blue? I really think in a planted tank blue would look cool. Do they give off less light.
    Thanks again, 2in10

No heat issues from them if they are not in a canopy, and even if they are 6 bulbs only raised my 75 gallon reef 1 degree.

The one blue is because the plants don't use as much of that spectrum but do use it some. You could go 2 blues also. Just sort of a preference for me.

    Ok I just PMed BoostLED
I think I am going to go for 2 blues
I will look at the pricing for LEDs and if they are way over what I want to spend I will go with the T5s.
Still wating to hear from BoostLED
    I really appreciate the help

A wild guess will be 3 to 4 bulbs, most likely 4.

Ouch that is a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ maybe I can do it we'll see
What would you go with personally? What type of light is the perfect balance so you have enough lighting for most plants, but you do not have to supplement too much?

From what I have read 2X54W is enough to grow just about all plants and not be too hard on supplements. I have 4X54W on my tank and I think I need to add ferts faster than the manufacturer suggests.

Ok I will check that out
If you could give me a link of some of those that would be really appreciated (I do not really know what companies are best with that type of lighting)
My tank is 55 gallons and 46 inches long
    Thank you very much
